Bioguided Isolation of Alternariol Derivatives from Ficus-derived Endophyte Alternaria alternata

Abstract: Background: Endophytes are a rich source of bioactive natural products and suggested to contribute the biological or defense activities their host plants. Following our research on discovery metabolites from endophytes, Alternaria alternata was isolated leaves Ficus carica L. fam Moraceae. Materials Methods: Large scale cultivation endophytic strain carried out obtained extract subjected preliminary screening antifungal cytotoxic activities. Results: Promising were for extract. Bio-guided fractionation resulted in isolation identification four alternariol derivatives (alternariol, alternariol-5-O-sulphate, alternariol-5-O-methyl ether, ether-4`-O-sulphate). The compounds tested effects. Results revealed highest activity against A. terreus (MIC= 2.64 μg mL-1) F. oxysporum 36 while ether exhibited cytotoxicity K-562 (CC50= 3.72 HUVEC 2.06 cell lines. Conclusion: All showed potent suggesting contribution this endophyte known antimicrobial anticancer plant. Key words: Endophyte, Alternariol, alternata, Anticancer, carica.
